This past week, I had the pleasure of participating in DOGtoberFEST here in Burlington Iowa. Our local community turned out in an amazing way with their four-legged companions, and I felt privileged to capture their moments through photography. While the humans made a great impression, it was the dogs that truly stole the spotlight. I recognized some familiar faces from my own dog's daycare, and although I had seen many of these pups before, I didn't know all of their stories or names. Miss Sophie was one dog I spotted from a distance! Unfortunately, when I couldn't capture a clear shot of her, I felt disappointed and had to share the news with her owners, Stacia and Kevin. To make amends, I suggested a spontaneous photo session at the lovely Crapo Park as a backdrop. I was determined to get her into that costume contest that runs until tomorrow!
I had the opportunity to learn more about Sophie and connect her story to the pictures I see weekly on Facebook. Stacia shared that she recently lost her cherished Basset Hound, Mabel, and took her time to heal before receiving the call about some puppies. A woman had some McNab Shepherds, and they immediately fell in love with Sophie’s unique markings and charming personality. They described her as the ultimate snuggle companion. McNab Shepherds are known for their herding abilities and strong-willed nature. According to Stacia and Kevin, Sophie appears to be more of a "city" dog. While she seemed a bit timid at first, her eyes sparkled at the sight of a ball, revealing her inner confidence! It seems she might be more inclined to run marathons and herd cats (LITERALLY!).
I hope everyone experiences as much joy as I did meeting Sophie and her wonderfully generous parents. If you haven't yet, be sure to check out the costume contest post on Facebook and give Sophie’s picture a like!
